About this tool
In Scrabble, each letter tile carries a point value based on how frequently that letter appears in English — common letters score less, rare ones score more. The single-point letters are E, A, I, O, N, R, S, T, L, and U — the ten most common letters in English. Moving up the scale: D and G are worth 2, B, C, M, and P are worth 3, F, H, V, W, and Y are worth 4, and K is worth 5. The high-scorers are J and X at 8 points each, and Q and Z at 10 points each. Blank tiles are worth 0 points but can stand in for any letter. This calculator shows the base tile value for any word — note that it does not include premium square bonuses (double letter, triple word, etc.) from the board.
Base tile values only — board premium squares (DL, TW, etc.) are not included.
